Use of the library

NHD student use of library

First visit – Middle School Students

Middle school students on their first visit to Lewis Library should:

  • Check in at the circulation desk
  • Fill out an NHD Visiting Researcher Application

    *Note: a group of students may fill out one form.  However, include the number of students on the form. 

  • Be accompanied by an adult. 
  • For any returning visits within the same calendar year, Middle School Students must check in at the circulation desk AND be accompanied by an adult.

 

First visit – High School Students

High school students on their first visit to Lewis Library should:

  • Check in at the circulation desk
  • Fill out an NHD Visiting Researcher Application

    *Note: a group of students may fill out one form.  However, include the number of students on the form. 

  • **Take one to be signed by their history teacher** (this allows them to check out books)
  • High school students (even those under age 16) may be in the library without an adult. 
  • For any return visits within the same calendar year, High School students must check in at the circulation desk.

 

Students may:

  • Use material from the collection. 
  • Use databases. 
  • Check out material with an NHD Membership Card (NHD teachers and high school students only)  

Technology

NHD technology uses

Within the library facility, students and teachers are permitted to use computers, laptops, and wifi provided by the Lewis Library. A library staff member will log on the patrons at the appropriate computer stations.

Neither students nor teachers are permitted to check out any technology items and remove them from the building at this time.

Parking

Parking is available in the overflow lot just across from the clock tower on Vernon Street. You will not need a parking pass to park in this lot. For those who need a handicapped parking spot, please contact the Library before you arrive so that we can reserve a parking spot for you in closer proximity to the building, if needed. 706-880-8312.

Obtaining a library card

NHD Membership Card

  1. Teachers may apply for a special NHD library card.  This is free and expires one year from the date they receive the card. 
  2. High school students may apply for a special free NHD library card IF they bring a form signed by their history teacher.  
  3. Middle school students are welcome in the library accompanied by an adult.  They may be logged onto the computers and use material in the library.  If the students would like to check something out, they may choose from these two options:
        * Purchase a community user card ($35 per year)
        * Go to the public library and request the book through interlibrary loan
