There are many ways to search the library's catalog online!

  • To search for the subject "West (U.S.)" use the search box above & change "keyword" to "subject" and then click "Search"
  • Also use the Library Catalog to search for books, e-books, DVDs, and other items available from Lewis Library.

E-BOOKS:

  • The Lewis Library has many e-books in its collection available for viewing 24/7.
  • When searching for E-books for this course, go to the Library's Home Page and select LIBRARY CATALOG.
  • LIMIT your search to the location "E-Book" to retrieve electronic books only.

BOOKS (PRINT)

  • The Lewis Library has many books about the American West.  You may search for books (located in the STACKS) from the Library Catalog.  You may also wish to browse the shelves for books in the STACKS located on the Lower Level of the Lewis Library.  Most books about the American West will be within the Library of Congress call number range F590 - F598.  You may also find some books of interest in books beginning with the call number E78 to E186.  Please do not re-shelve books, but place them on one of the research tables located at the South end of the Lower Level.

HOW TO DISCOVER SUBJECT HEADINGS

  • It is often useful to conduct a TITLE search to discover Subject Headings that will result in the highest level of specificity.  Simply type in the TITLE field a term that is associated with your topic, then go to the Catalog Record to determine the subject headings assigned; these will appear as links within the bibliographic record.  Generally this approach will result in a list of titles having the same Library of Congress Subject Heading.
