Annotated Bib Defined

What is an Annotated Bibliography?

  • A list of citations to books, articles, and documents.
  • Each citation is followed by a descriptive and evaluative paragraph. (This is the "Annotation")
  • The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, quality of the source, and significance to the project.

If you still need assistance with your Annotated Bib. after consulting this page:

  • Contact one of the Librarians! Use the "Ask-A-Librarian" form on this page to ask the librarians a quick question, or "Panther Chat" from the library home page.
  • Visit the Writing Center for handouts and to meet with a writing tutor. The Writing Center is located (as of Spring 2019) in Lewis Library, room 305, and open Monday through Thursday nights from 5-9 p.m. (when classes are in session).

Check-list for Citation Informtion

Use the following check-list to make sure you have all the information you need to create a citation of your sources:

  • Author(s) and/or Editor(s) Name
  • Title of the book, article or document
  • Year the item was published
  • Name of the publishing company
  • Place of publication (ex: New York)
  • Number of pages cited
  • For journal articles only: Title, Volume and Issue # of Journal
