Oral History Interviews

During the fall of 2018, the Suber Archives began an oral history project that focused on retired faculty and staff. The project has since evolved to include early African-American students, current long-term employees with over 25 years of service, former employees, current student leaders, alumni, and community members with a connection to LaGrange College.   • Ms. Lisa Farrow - Lisa Farrow is a LaGrange College Class of 1998 and Class of 2017 alumnae.
  • Ms. Charlene Baxter - Charlene Baxter, Former Director (Retired) of the Frank and Laura Lewis Library here at LaGrange College. Charlene worked for the college for 43 years.
  • Mr. Jason Lewis - Jason Lewis is the son of Frank and Laura Lewis. 
  • Miss Nancy Alford - Nancy Alford retired after serving as a long-time employee of LaGrange College.
  • Ms. Kirby McCartney - Kirby McCartney worked at LaGrange College as an Administrative Assistant from 1983 - 2018 and as a house mother in Hawkes from 1999 - 2012
  • Mrs. Dee Dee Williams - Dee Dee Williams is an early 1970’s alumna of LaGrange College.
  • Mr. Floyd Mack - Floyd Mack is an early 1970’s alumnus of LaGrange College.
  • Rev. Karlton Howard - Rev. Karlton L. Howard is an early 1970’s alumnus of LaGrange College.
  • Mr. Calvin Williams, John Poythress and Dr. George Baker (Group Interview) - Rev. Karlton L. Howard, Mr. John Poythress, and Dr. George Baker are early 1970’s alumni of LaGrange College.
  • Ms. Gwendolyn Redwine - Gwendolyn Redwine is daughter of Rev. J. R. Ware.
  • Mr. Austin P. Cook III  -  Austin P. Cook III is a 1969 LaGrange College alumnus. 
  • Dr. Charles ‘Chuck’ Kraemer - Charles 'Chuck' Kraemer is currently Professor of Psychological Science at LaGrange College and a 1971 graduate of LaGrange College.
  • Mrs. Sheneka Lynch-Lewis - Sheneka Lynch-Lewis an alumnae of LaGrange College.
  • Miss Caitlyn Deal - Caitlyn Deal was a May 2019 graduate of LaGrange College. Caitlyn was named the 2019 Waights G. Henry Award Winner for her class.
  • Coach Jeff Geeter - Jeff Geeter has been employed with LaGrange College since 1990 in the Exercise Science and Athletics Department.
  • Mr. Charles and Mrs. Theresa Scott - Charles Scott is the nephew of Mrs. Laura Scott Lewis.
  • Mrs. Verona Brown Hill - Verona Brown-Hill was the first African American graduate of LaGrange College. She was a member of the Class of 1969.
  • Mr. David Harris - David Harris is an alumnus of LaGrange College. David is also a 2019 Grammy Award-winning producer.
  • Dr. Greg McClanahan - Greg McClanahan is the Chair of the Mathematics Department. He has worked for the college since 1988.
  • Coach Phil Williamson - Phil Williamson is a retired Athletics Director of LaGrange College. 
  • Dr. Carol Yin - Carol Yin is currently Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Professor of Mathematics and is a long-term employee of LaGrange College.
  • Rev. J. R. Ware - Rev. J.R. Ware is the Pastor of the Welcome Baptist Church.
  • Dr. Maranah Sauter - Maranah Sauter is the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and a Professor of Nursing and a long-term employee of LaGrange College.
  • Mr. John Lawrence - John Lawrence is currently the Callaway Professor of Art & Design and Director of the Lamar Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College. 
  • Miss Marie Gunn - Marie Gunn was a cook for 33 years at LaGrange College.
  • Miss Reasie Gunn - Reasie Gunn was a cook for 33 years at LaGrange College.
  • Miss Annie Lee Gunn - Annie Lee Gunn was a dishwasher for 33 years at LaGrange College.
  • Dr. Celia Hay - Celia Hay retired in 2019 as the Chair of the Nursing Department at LaGrange College.
  • Ms. Ethyl Ault - Ethyl Ault is a retired Education Instructor. 
  • Mr. Robert Allen - Robert Allen is a May 2019 graduate of LaGrange College.
  • Dr. Sandy Johnson - Sandie Johnson is a retired employee of LaGrange College. She worked from 1983 - 2005.
  • Mr. Jamarcus Watkins - Jamarcus was a May 2019 graduate of LaGrange College.
  • Dr. George Henry - George Henry is the son of one of the longest serving President of LaGrange College, Dr. Waights G. Henry.
  • Dr. Tracy Lightcap - Tracy Lightcap is a retired Chair and Professor of Political Science at LaGrange College.
  • Miss Kayla White - Kayla White was a May 2019 graduate of LaGrange College.
  • Miss Celeste Crowe - Celeste Crowe was an Art major that graduated in 2019.
  • Mr. Jonathan Grimes - Jonathan Grimes was a May 2019 graduate of LaGrange College.
  • Dr. Sally Curtis Askew and Dr. Judy Greer – Ms. Sally Curtis Askew and Miss Judy Greer are graduates of LaGrange College.
  • LaGrange Police Chief Lou Dekmar - Lou Dekmar has been the Police Chief in LaGrange, Georgia for 25 years (as of May 2019).
  • Dr. Arthur W. Robinson - Arthur W. Robinson III is retired Reference Librarian at LaGrange College, 1998 - 2020.
  • Dr. Joe Cafaro - Joe Cafaro is a retired Department of History and Social Sciences Chair. He worked for LaGrange College from 1984 - 2017.
  • Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Annie Greene – Mr. Oliver Greene and Mrs. Annie L. Greene is a long-time Troup County educator.
  • Mr. Anton Flores – Anton Flores is a former LaGrange College Professor and founder of AlternCommunity in LaGrange, GA.
  • Reverend Carl Von Epps – Reverend Carl Von Epps is the co-founder of Trustbuilder, Inc., pastor of Empower United Methodist Church, and a retired Georgia State Representative.
  • Ms. Mattie Frances Boddie - Ms. Boddie is a long-time resident of Redline Alley and performed domestic duties for President Waight G. Henry's family.
  • Husband and wife, Mrs. Casey Dugas (Class of 2012) and Mr. Matt Montgomery (Class of 2007) are LaGrange College alumni educators were here on a visit from Ningbo, China.
  • Mr. J. Alton Croker was one of the first African American students here on campus in 1967.
  • Mr. Paul Hammock is the Technical Director for the LaGrange College Music Department.
  • Dr. William W. Price, LC Former Associate Professor of Philosophy 1966- 1968. 
  • Dr. Cody 'Spec' Clark (Class of 1980) and Mr. Barry Clark (Class of 1981) - Andrew College and LaGrange Alumni. 
  • Dr. John Williams, Retired English Professor, spoke about the beginnings of the Cultural Enrichment program and his work with it. 
  • Mr. Aldine Stephen Johnson, former high school science teacher, spoke about his educational experience in West Point, Georgia in the 1950's and 1960's.
  • Mrs. Maxine Maddox, Director of Maidee Smith Memorial Nursery. 
  • Mrs. Alfreda Barrow Fannings, first African American enrollee at LaGrange College. 
  • Mr. John Lawrence, Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Art and Design, wrapped up 49 years of employment at LaGrange College.
  • Mr. William Whitfield, first African American male from LaGrange to attend LaGrange College.
  • Mrs. Dawn Cummings Coker, Class of 1977, and retiring (May 1, 2020) Vice President of Human Resources and Title IX Coordinator.
  • Dr. William Paschal - Professor of Biology.
  • Shirley Gilliam, County Administrative Assistant for the Troup County Extension Office - University System of Georgia, spoke about Ms. Ethel Kight. Ms. Kight was a long term and very respected educator in Troup County. She has a school named in her honor.
  • Dr. John Cook - Professor of Religion and Philosophy.
  • Mr. Wesley Dismuke - 2017 Graduate of LaGrange College and co-founder of Black Student Union (BSU).
  • Mr. Corey B. Morgan - 2017 Graduate of LaGrange College and co-founder of Black Student Union (BSU) and Servant Scholar.
  • Miss Destinee Carlyle -2020 Alumni, President of Black Student Union (BSU), and Director of Multicultural Affairs (SGA)
  • Dr. Laine Scott, Professor of English and Chair, Department of Humanities. Laine is a world traveler.
  • Dr. William Yin, Professor of Mathematics, shared his story of growing up in Taiwan and his 25 years of experience here at LaGrange College.
  • Reverend Mrs. Johnnie Earl McCamey Freeman, native of LaGrange, Georgia.
  • Miss Grace Harvey, Troup County Teacher from 1947 -1985. Taught at East Depot Elementary and Boys Junior High School.
  • Reverend Robert Lee Crawford, Class of 1975, first African American Student Government President. January 12, 2021. Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church.
